Dean R. Sobcoviak
Vice President — Security, Western Region, HSS
Dean Sobcoviak is Vice President — Security for HSS, Denver, one of the nation’s leading specialized services outsourcing firms. Working from the Northern California office of HSS, he directs Healthcare Security operations in the company’s Western Region, which includes more than 40 healthcare facility customers in Arizona, California, Hawaii, and Idaho. HSS Healthcare Security develops programs that help hospitals and healthcare providers prevent and mitigate aggression and violence in their facilities and ensure the security and safety of their staff, patients, and visitors. During Sobcoviak’s tenure, Joint Commission Environment of Care surveyors have made zero recommendations for improvement in more than 100 surveys conducted in HSS customer facilities in the Western Region.
Sobcoviak also serves as the primary physical security consultant for HSS healthcare customers undergoing renovation or new construction. Using industry best practices and standards, he helps these organizations develop a security model that effectively balances and integrates security staffing with appropriate technologies, such as CCTV, card access, duress alarms, infant security, and others.
Sobcoviak joined HSS in 1999, serving in a number of operational and administrative roles before being appointed Vice President of the Healthcare Security division in 2005. He began his career as a sworn law enforcement officer and, prior to joining HSS, was Director of Operations for an international security organization.
Sobcoviak is board certified in security management, holding the Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator (CHPA) , and Registered Healthcare Safety Officer — Senior Level (RHSO) designations.
A native of Wisconsin, Sobcoviak earned a B.S. degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. An active outdoorsman, Sobcoviak enjoys fishing, golf, and coaching the basketball and baseball teams of his sons, Justin and Evan.
