Federal Security Director for the State of Utah W. Paul Armes wrote to HSS Security Officer James Detton:

“On behalf of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Transportation Security Administration, Utah Field Office, I would like to extend my appreciation for your security vigilance, domain awareness, and observational skill. On July 22, 2014, at the Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC), a TSA Transportation Security Inspector conducted a test of the airport’s access control system by attempting to enter the secured area without visible identification media. While this test occurred outside of your typical area of responsibility, you immediately recognized unauthorized access and took appropriate action as required in the SLC Airport Security Program.

“As threats to aviation security continue to evolve in sophistication and complexity, your commitment and continued support is essential to the success of our efforts in preventing future terrorist attacks.

“Thank you again for your continued support and dedication to aviation security.”

HSS Program Manager Cary DeMille adds, “We are pleased when our officers exercise diligence in preserving the integrity of the airport. Mr. Detton, along with all officers, take pride in providing the quality service our client and customers expect.”
