HSS Inc. has announced that, following the retirement of Chief Executive Officer Wayne Schell at the end of 2015, company Chief Operating Officer Tony York will become the organization’s next CEO.
“The HSS mission has always been to provide solutions that enhance the value of our customers’ business,” noted Judy Lenane, Chair, HSS Board. “Unwavering focus on that mission has earned HSS the number one ranking nationally in healthcare security and airport security and the largest market share in Colorado for medical equipment management. The HSS Board has every confidence that, under Tony’s leadership, HSS will continue to provide practical, cost-effective, and innovative solutions that maintain longstanding customer partnerships.”
York’s appointment followed a several-month director-led search for Schell’s successor. “In the complex security business environment we operate in as a company,” said Peter Durante, immediate past HSS Board Chair and Succession Planning Committee lead, “it is imperative to have leadership with the experience and vision to ensure HSS’s continued ability to help customers succeed in that environment. Tony has that experience and vision.”
Tony York served as Senior Vice President of Healthcare Security from 2002 to 2012 and as COO since 2012. During his tenure as COO, he led many successful initiatives, including introduction of new service lines in security systems integration, emergency management and consulting, and aviation and government services. Additionally, he led the development of the HSS Institute for Leadership, Education, Advancement, and Development (iLEAD™), which enables HSS to give employees the additional knowledge and skills they need to serve customers, attain their career aspirations, and help others succeed. He provided oversight for the HSS Medical Equipment Management Group, which maintains and repairs a full range of biomedical equipment to help customers operate more safely and efficiently. York is coauthor of Hospital and Healthcare Security, now in its 6th edition and widely considered to be the definitive book for hospital security, and is a past president and board chair of the International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety (IAHSS).
